Deep dive into the life of a designer and maker

A journal about the adventures of a Toronto based designer and maker of modern furniture and objects.

IDS 2016: A recap

What a weekend we had at IDS 2016. We were a little apprehensive heading into the show due to the fact that we were launching our furniture company for the first time. But, we were not disappointed! The show was really well executed and was a truly enjoyable experience. I have done many trade shows in the past but this one - unlike others - was energizing.

The festivities started Thursday night with the opening party which was so much fun. We got to meet all of our show neighbors and some great attendees. Having our furniture on display was incredible because we were able to see people interact with it for the first time. Having people touch it and inquire about it was both validating and encouraging. The response was great from the get go and that sentiment continued on into the weekend.

Friday was trade day and we got to meet so many interesting people from all different walks of the business. We found that trade day came with great questions and interesting people. We were so proud to tell everyone that we manufacture everything ourselves in Toronto. The weekend was just as good and it was great to get feedback about our products. We heard from many of the patrons what they liked and what they wanted! We have lots of notes to document.

The show really got us thinking about IDS Vancouver in September. We have lots to consider. It is really great that Canadian furniture manufacturers have an event like IDS to display their product. We hope people were able to see the quality of our residential furniture and the capabilities of our custom contract furniture division.

Till next year!
