Last week we were in New York for design week and to officially launch our Buoy floating nightstand to the Architecture and Design community. New York design week is a lot of fun for us as it allows us to reconnect with our industry partners and with the public to get feedback and discuss new products and ongoing projects.
Two highlights of design week for me was Furnishing Utopia, an offsite exhibition in its second year, that was sponsored by Design Within Reach. The exhibit features designs by some of today's best designers and is best described on their website as "Visitors will discover 50+ new objects from 26 international designers. In addition to the curated works, interactive visual and sound installations will challenge visitors to more deeply consider the sensorial satisfaction of using common tools."
I also was lucky enough to get a tour of Donald Judd's soho studio which was inspiring and insightful. I definitely relate to his design principles as a furniture designer but it was interesting to learn more about his design life and some of his sculptural work.
Our floating nightstands were really well received at the show. We went with a really minimal display that highlighted the different variations of our Buoy series. We got interesting requests ranging from phone booths to a variety of different functioning consoles. We always are interested in learning about the different ways people like to use our products and which wood species and finishes people like.
If you attend design shows, we would love to hear which ones are your favorites! If you attended ICFF and stopped by our booth, thank you for continually supporting us.
